How I Used This Summer Tunic To Style 3 Fall Transitional Outfits

Years ago I fell in love with the Instagram famous crinkle gauze button down shirt. They’re lightweight and easy to style for everyday summer outfits or to toss over a swimsuit for a quick cover up at the beach — it’s the perfect summer staple item! Needless to say, I bought them in every color and wore them all summer long any chance I could get.

But when fall came around, I wanted to find a way to rewear this closet favorite of mine. And since the beginning of the fall season can still be relatively warm, I decided it was the perfect time to challenge myself to find different ways to rewear this summer tunic top to create some transitional outfits.

I’m sharing 3 fall transitional outfits using a summer tunic, plus some more outfit ideas you can try!

Fall transitional outfit #1

Since the gauze cotton button down tunics are generally more oversized, I decided to button the Free People button down tunic all the way up and wear it as a dress. You can choose to leave yours loose for a more casual look, but I wanted a more fitted style so I paired it with a belt and some heeled knee high boots for a dressy fall transitional outfit.

Fall transitional outfit #2

For a more casual fall transitional outfit, I restyled the Free People button down tunic as a shacket over a cropped tank, a pair of denim shorts, and ankle boots. If you’re not feeling the shorts, try a midi or mini skirt!

Fall transitional outfit #3

For a dressy casual fall transitional outfit, I used the Free People button down tunic as a cardigan over my white mini dress and paired it with flat knee high boots. If you’re not feeling the dress, try a romper or a jumpsuit!

Looking for more ways to style your summer tunic for fall?

Wear it as a top - You can choose to wear it as a stand alone top by buttoning it all the way up or leaving it half buttoned.

Pair it with jeans - Even though early fall can still be quite warm, cooler temps still happen so it’s the perfect time to style your tunic with a pair of jeans.

Crop or tuck it - Get a bit fancier with the way you wear your tunic by cropping or tucking it. You can either use the bra tuck method, tie it the front, or tuck it into your bottoms.

Tie it around your waist - Tie the tunic around your waist for an effortless cool girl look, or just so you have it with you on the go in case you get chilly!
